The Brousseau family welcomed a new member into their home when they adopted Duke, a dog from a shelter in Portland, Connecticut. Initially, Duke struggled with the trauma of shelter life, but over time, he transformed into an affectionate and devoted companion for the family. Six years later, he showcased his appreciation in a truly heartwarming way!
Recently, the family celebrated the arrival of their baby girl, Harper, and Duke quickly took on the role of her protector. One night, as the family slept peacefully, Duke suddenly dashed into his parents’ bedroom and leaped onto their bed. He trembled with fear and ignored every command his owners gave him. Sensing his distress, Mom finally asked what was troubling him.
Duke guided his parents to Harper’s nursery, anxiously directing their attention to the 9-week-old baby, who was not breathing. Without wasting a moment, the family rushed their little girl to the emergency room, where doctors were able to revive her just in time! Duke relaxed only after confirming that his sister was safe and breathing normally.
The Brousseau family can’t help but shudder at the thought of what might have happened if Duke hadn’t acted so quickly. They are forever thankful to their brave rescue dog, who remains blissfully unaware of his heroic status! Duke’s inspiring story serves as a reminder of the incredible bond between humans and rescue dogs, encouraging more people to give these loyal animals a chance.
